I think that this exhibition is quite a dramatic representation of the current drought situation. There is a huge contrast in the way the images are presented because in one sense the images are very harsh and in another sense they are beautiful both in colour and quality. I think this was actually a very smart thing to do because making them so vibrant in colour attracts people getting them to pay attention to the subject of the exhibition.
One of the pieces which i think play on words a little bit is by Michael Coyne 'Sons and Father 2006'. The text was saying that the sons are leaving the farms these days due to there being no prospect on the land as compared to the sons of WW1, but there are also other things that could be contributing to the sons leaving their farms. Some being that there are now more options out in the cities, its more common for children to lose interest in their families farm, there is more education about what people can achieve and it was also a very different generation in WW1 and the young men then had different beliefs as to what the young men do now.
I think that people need to realise that Ausralia has a dry and harsh climate. Things in nature go in cycles and there have been massive droughts in the past which then turn around to huge rains. I am not at all saying that global warming or people have not contributed to the size of the drought at the moment but i think that there is always more than one reason for things to be the way they are.
I think that one of the main reasons why there is such hype about this particular drought and not ones in previous times is the media and the capabilities of the equipment. There is more opportunity for people everywhere to document this drought and so it is brought to the attention of the public more readily and in many different ways.
The exhibition was good but i think very one sided and its aim is trying to pull on peoples heart strings to get them on side with them.
